Mantra – Loudmouth

May 3rd, 2013

Press Release

Proud and unapologetic, Mantra’s latest single Loudmouth is the self-examination of an artist who can’t help but shoot his mouth off. From class clown to one of Australia’s most loved MCs, Mantra’s rise to prominence is chronicled in Loudmouth, which finds the Melbourne rapper yet again mixing vocabulary with philosophy.

Newly-signed to Ten To Two Records – his first label since signing with Obese in 2010 – Mantra is back in top form, following on from his groundbreaking second album, 2011’s Speaking Volumes. Produced by One Above (Hilltop Hoods), Mantra’s history as a beatmaker shines through on the track’s infectious rhythms, as does his ability to pen a hook. Each chorus sinks deeper into the brain as the beat sinks deeper into the soul.

Without flinching, Mantra draws his line in the sand. ‘I am a loudmouth / Like it or not I am never gonna pipe down / I’ve been the same since playing on the playground / Which is why I’m never gonna put the mic down’.

Uncompromising and razor-sharp, Mantra’s wit has always been his weapon, and his flair for rhyme and meter have made him one of Australia’s best rappers. Publicly yet astutely labelled ‘your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper’, Mantra has been blazing a trail for himself since 2005 with a tenacity that no one can question.

Wrapped up in autobiographical truth and suitably smartarse humour, Loudmouth is Mantra’s tenacity incarnate.

Allday – Loners Are Cool

April 5th, 2013

Press Release

Still buzzing from ‘So Good’ scoring #91 in the triple j Hottest 100 radio poll and playing a host of summer festivals including Big Day Out, Pushover and St Kilda Festival, Allday releases his EP ‘Loners are Cool’, a sophisticated take on contemporary hip hop.

Allday’s clever observational style and melodic lyrical flows slide over beats from the likes of producer One Above (Hilltop Hoods, Illy) to create Australia’s exciting answer to Drake or Frank Ocean. Stylish, new wave hip hop with heart, Allday creates electric songs that are connecting with fans far and wide.

Upon release the EP has set the iTunes charts on fire, sitting at #1 in Hip Hop and as high as #4 on the Overall Album chart. First single Girl in the Sun features a soulful vocal hook from Brady James and has great summertime shimmer. A one shot video has racked up 45,000 views already, with triple j giving the song early spins. Otto grooves to a dark, dirty, danceable synth line, Breathe Slow is a beautiful and honest tale, Single Mother Song a heartfelt dedication, while That Phone is a Brick is driven by a bluesy piano sample while sharing a tongue in cheek life lesson from high school. Allday’s ear for a sweet hook and the ability to deliver unique verses makes ‘Loners are Cool’ a bold statement – eclectic, stylish, yet cohesive.

Kate Martin – Remix EP

March 26th, 2013

Press Release

Between the release of her second album and the writing of her third, Kate Martin decided to do something a little different. Kate’s drive for continual creative expansion led to the idea of a remix EP, where she could explore new musical horizons.

Three producers were asked to collaborate:
- Hip-hop producer One Above, who Kate has recently worked with on Chance Waters’ ‘Conjure Up A Fire’, re-birthed Apples under his own signature style.
- Coach Bombay playfully transformed Nocturnal into a dream-pop disco hit.
- Mind Tree selected Embers Burn to turn into a cinematic soundscape.

Each of the tracks differs from one another as much as they do from the original versions, the result of four creative minds from different ends of the musical spectrum coming together to deliver a new and tastefully diverse project.

Kate Martin is a musician who doesn’t like to stay in one place, musically, creatively or geographically. After gaining national attention for her debut album, the Townsville-born songstress has been travelling across Australia playing, writing and recording new music. She has taken to the stage with renowned artists including Josh Pyke, The Waifs, The Middle East, Emma Louise, Bluejuice, The Paper Kites and Little Birdy.

Like her nomadic lifestyle, Kate’s music is constantly moving and changing. Her eclectic compositions embrace many varied styles of music from atmospheric dream-pop ballads, to anthemic orchestral arrangements to catchy folk pop numbers. Kate relocated to Melbourne in July 2012, where she quickly made her mark, completing her first residency, played prestigious summer festivals and was asked to perform at the Australia Day flag raising ceremony and official Australia Day lunch. Expect to see and hear a lot more from Kate Martin in the coming months with new releases on the horizon.
